Pine Island Volunteer Ambulance Corps was incorporated on June 11, 1976 with 35 charter members. PIVAC went into active riding service Oct 15, 1976. PIVAC's first bay was Amity firehouse from June 1976 to January 1977. Our first Ambulance was bought from Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps for $1 in October 1976.
Our second bay was between the TS Purta Funeral Home and Pulaski Firehouse. It was donated to use an unlimited number of years by Teddy Purta. PIVAC's second rig, a 1979 Ford Super Van, went into service Nov 9, 1979.
Groundbreaking for the second and present bay was held on March 27, 1983. PIVAC moved into our new and present quarters in July of 1983.Thanks to the Jolly Onion Inn and Ted Sobiech for donating toward the installation dinner and fundraising dinner faithfully every year.
